Obama 'optimistic' with two days to reach budget deal
US President Barack Obama has said he is "moderately optimistic" that Congress will reach a deal on a 2013 US budget. The main parties disagree on only a small part of the debate, which is holding everything else up.

A Chilean judge has ordered the arrest of eight ex-army lieutenants in connection with the 1973 murder of folk singer and leftist icon Victor Jara. Two were charged with murder, while six were said to be accomplices.

Industrial giant ThyssenKrupp has completed the sale of stainless steel company Inoxum to Finnish competitor Outokumpu. The deal creates a new global steel leader and marks the end of an era for Essen-based ThyssenKrupp.
