Yahoo! Just Bought The Attention Of 15.6 Million 16-24 Year-Olds (Global Web Index)
To say Tumblr has a youthful user base is an understatement. Nearly half, or 46% of its 34 million active users in the first quarter of 2013 were between the ages of 16 and 24, according to the Global Web Index. That's 15.6 million users in their late teens and early twenties, roughly the same population as Guatemala. Yahoo has a "coolness" problem among younger demographics, and so by acquiring Tumblr, it is claiming turf among youthful demographics in the competitive world of social media giants. 1 in 3 Teens Say They've Been Served 'Clearly Inappropriate' Ads Online (Pew Internet)
A newly published Pew Internet study found that 30% of teens say they've been served inappropriate advertising online. In breaking down that number further, 24% were between the ages of 12 to 13 and 32% were between the ages of 14 to 17. However, Pew also found that nearly half of the teen respondents admitted to lying about their age in order to gain access to websites, which leads to mature ads being served unintentionally to teens. LinkedIn is sending a survey around to its users who have listed previous contractor roles on their profile. The career-oriented social network appears be testing a button that shows up next to a user's name and indicates their interest in contract work.
