At least 27 people have been reported dead after two explosions hit the Syrian capital Damascus on Saturday morning. Civilians and police were said to be among the victims.

Mauritania says it has arrested the late Moammar Gadhafi's former Libyan intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senoussi, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

Commission sets date for Kenyan presidential race
Kenya's electoral commission says it has seized the initiative and set 4 March next year as the date for a presidential election - the first since 2007 when post-poll violence claimed 1,220 lives.

Swiss Taliban hostages return home from Pakistan captivity
A Swiss couple, who had been captured by the Taliban in Pakistan last July, arrived safely back home on Saturday. They say they managed to escape, while the Taliban say a ransom was paid.
