Here's one that will make you spit coffee on your computer this morning (but will also help you win a bar bet on the subject)! Our friends at
OnlineDegree.net
just published a fascinating article entitled "25 Jobs That Will Probably Kill You." Read it here below:
http://www.onlinedegree.net/25-jobs-that-will-probably-kill-you/
Yes, the "usual suspects" are there, led by the "three C's):
- coal miner (unfortunately, we all know this after the recent West Virginia accident)
- commercial fisherman (anyone who watches "Deadliest Catch" can understand this)
- cop (enough said - doing great service for us all).
In the list of the top 25 deadliest jobs, there are others that make you say, of course they're dangerous occupations, including:
- loggers (lots die so that we can waste paper at the Xerox machine and print off dumb lists - except for this one!)
- transportation jobs (not good news for aircraft pilots, taxi drivers, and commercial truckers)
- electrical jobs (power line workers, electricians - yes, high voltage is highly dangerous)
- building professions (construction workers, roofers, iron and steel workers - heights, heat and power tools - not a good combo).
Now, here's where you will win the bet with your buddies, as there are some jobs that they will never guess would be in the top 25. See if you can win a beer (or a Dr. Pepper) with these:
- supervisors and cashiers (as they mostly - unfortunately come as the result of crime)
- auto mechanics (as the author points out, when you combine working on - and under - heavy machinery, bad things tend to happen)
- cooks (must be a byproduct of all the psychotic TV chefs we have today)
- nurses (yes exposed to more bad "stuff," but also chronically exhausted - medication errors anyone?)
- stock handlers (who knew putting beans and towels on Wal-Mart shelves could be so hazardous).
So, let's be careful out there - whether you're working in the woods, at Wal-Mart, or in the wood-paneled executive suite (yes, paper cuts can get infected and kill you with
staph infection these days!).
