President Obama, Mr. Tough Guy? -- Legitimately delusional -- Will Curves fall next? -- Politics schmolitics -- Poll of the Day: Could Obama lose Illinois? --Tweet of Yesterday | 1.) President Obama, Mr. Tough Guy? -- President Obama apparently talks tougher about Marco Rubio than he does about Iran. TheDC's Alex Pappas reports on some revelations in journalist Glenn Thrush's new book:
"'Obama’s Last Stand' also describes Obama as 'a cocky trash-talker,' though his 'confidence … was not absolute.' In one anecdote, Thrush wrote that in the months before Romney announced his running mate, Obama asked a friend of Marco Rubio’s if she thought the Florida senator would be tapped. 'Tell your boy to watch it,' Obama said, according to Thrush. 'He might get his ass kicked.'" | 2.) Legitimately delusional -- After making a monumentally stupid comment about rape during a TV interview, Todd Akin faces calls from many in the conservative movement to get out of the Missouri Senate race. But he's not yet budging, reports TheDC's Alexis Levinson:
"Defying a deluge of criticism and calls from fellow Republicans to withdraw, Rep. Todd Akin remains in Missouri’s U.S. Senate race and appears to have no plan to withdraw. 'I’m announcing today that we’re going to stay in!' is the latest post on Akin’s Facebook page, dating from Monday evening. Akin made the comment on Sean Hannity’s radio show earlier Monday, adding that he felt he was still the 'strongest' candidate to beat incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill."
Akin is the strongest candidate at this point in the same way the Burger King's bacon sundae is the healthiest snack in America. | 3.) Will Curves fall next? -- Our great national nightmare is over -- Augusta National now has female members. TheDC's Caroline May reports:
"Augusta National Golf Club, has accepted its first female members. The club announced Monday that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and businesswoman Darla Moore have accepted offers of membership — becoming the club’s first women members — after years of criticism for the club’s all-male membership."
Will other gender exclusive institutions fall next? Like Curves, a national fitness chain that only accepts women members? | 4.) Politics schmolitics -- TheDC's Matt Labash gives the okay to forget about politics, even though it is a presidential election year:
"Better for you to go on about your business, leading a full, productive, largely politics-free life in the months before Election Day, instead of being that guy sitting in his own filth in his family room, crushing cheese puffs underfoot while screaming like a howler monkey at MSNBC. Your vote is going to have just as much carry as his. (Which if you live in my politically lopsided state, Maryland, is to say not much.) But you’ll be happier, saner, and won’t smell as badly. Your blood pressure will be lower. And perhaps most important of all, you won’t have to endure Touré." | | 5.) Poll of the Day: Could Obama lose Illinois? -- Poll of Cook County by Illinois-based pollster and political strategist Michael McKeon: President Obama 49%, Mitt Romney 37%. TheDC's Alexis Levinson writes: "That puts him ahead by a far thinner margin than expected in a county he should be winning handsomely. Cook is the most Democratic leaning county in the state. It is also the most populous. Those numbers do not bode well for the president." | | 6.)
