Pope Benedict XVI's former butler has been sentenced to one year and six months in jail for stealing and leaking confidential papal documents. The prosecution had asked for a three year sentence.

Somalia's president has named economist Abdi Farah Shirdon as the new prime minister. Shirdon has said he will have a zero-tolerance policy on corruption and shun political infighting.

Guinea's President Alpha Conde has reshuffled his cabinet and removed its last military figures. But the country is still waiting for parliamentary elections to take place.

Peace activists march against US drone war in Pakistan
Rising political star Imran Khan and hundreds of peace activists have begun their trek to Pakistan's tribal regions to protest the US drone war in the area. The Pakistani Taliban has condemned the march.

French police shoot dead terrorism suspect in Strasbourg
French police have shot dead a suspect during an anti-terrorism operation in the northeastern city of Strasbourg. The operation was part of a broader investigation into a bomb attack on a Jewish grocery store in Paris.

Foxconn says factory is i-ok after strike reports
Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn, which assembles Apple products, has rejected claims of strikes at a plant in China, saying there was no impact on production. This followed reports of thousands dropping tools.
