THE LATEST

Law-enforcement officials in Boston may have taken a suspect linked to Monday's marathon bombing into custody, but there are conflicting reports. Check our live blog for the latest breaking updates.

NEW DETAILS

Just one day after a mysterious letter sent to Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker was found to contain ricin, the FBI announced the discovery of another poison-laced letter—this one meant for President Obama. Several other senators reported receiving suspicious mail Wednesday as well. A spokesman for the FBI announced that early tests on the Obama letter showed signs of ricin. In a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Press Secretary Jay Carney said the president had been briefed on the letter, but deferred all other questions to the FBI, which is conducting the investigation. The disturbing discovery comes just one day after authorities intercepted a note meant for Wicker, which was also found to contain ricin. Whether the letters are connected to the deadly explosions at the Boston Marathon remains unclear.

GUN CONTROL

As support for a background-check deal collapses in the Senate, Harry Reid broke with the National Rifle Association and declared his support for an assault-weapons ban. "We must strike a better balance between the right to defend ourselves and the right of every child in America to grow up safe from gun violence," the A-rated Nevada Democrat said on the Senate floor. Unfortunately for him, the outlook for gun-control legislation looks bleak. A bipartisan amendment on background checks that is a vital ingredient in a passable gun bill appears to lack the necessary votes. Sen. Joe Manchin, one of the bill's cosponsors, said on the floor that he knows they're close but doesn't know what the outcome will be.

KAUFMAN COUNTY

So much for the Aryan Brotherhood. Authorties say the wife of a disgraced ex-judge admitted to being involved in the killings of a North Texas district attorney, his wife, and an assistant prosecutor. Kim Lene Williams was arrested early this morning, following the arrest of her husband, Eric Lyle Williams, this Saturday. The two murdered prosecutors worked to convict Eric of stealing computer monitors from a county building in 2011. Investigators broke open the case this weekend when they discovered a storage unit linked to Eric that contained 20 guns and a car that matched the one used in at least one of the killings.

PHOTOSHOP

The Post wasn't the only New York tabloid to botch coverage of the Boston bombing. The New York Daily News doctored a photo of a bombing victim on yesterday's front page. The original picture shows a woman with a badly mangled leg lying in a pool of blood while someone kneels to help her. But in the picture that ran in the News, her wound is gone. "If you can't stomach the gore, don't run the photo," wrote Charles Apple, who originally posted a story about the manipulation. The New York Post, the News's rival, was criticized for inflating the death toll and running with a story about a Saudi suspect.
