MOMMY ACTIVISTS
Can a group of passionate mothers defeat the nation's largest pro-gun institution and persuade elected officials to enact laws that will reduce gun violence and save lives? Dean Obeidallah writes that at this weekend's annual NRA convention, there will be a lot of talking back and punishment threats, but who will eat soap remains to be seen.
SAY WHAT?

The Nevada rancher in trouble with the federal government for grazing his cattle on federal lands without paying the proper fees is speaking out as to what he sees are issues involving minorities and welfare. Cliven Bundy, the 67-year-old rancher whose standoff with federal rangers made him a Fox News star, told reporters Wednesday, "I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro," he started, and went on to complain about how he thinks they just sit on their porches all day. "And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?" he wondered. "They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I've often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy?" Rand Paul, who has previously expressed support for Bundy, said in a statement, "His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him."

IRONY

Authorities have uncovered a lot of astounding details regarding former Ku Klux Klan leader Frazier Glenn Miller, who is accused of killing three people this month at a Jewish Community Center in Kansas. It turns out that Miller was detailed by police in 1986 in Raleigh, N.C., "mid-act" with a black male prostitute dressed as a woman. Miller was not charged in the incident, although he claimed in an interview with the Southern Poverty Law Center that he lured the man to the meeting with the intention of beating the prostitute.
