Clinton devotes 34 pages to the issue, saying she takes responsibility for it, but that in the aftermath there has been a "regrettable amount of misinformation, speculation, and flat-out deceit by some in politics and the media." Clinton hopes she can put the issue to bed (good luck): "I will not be a part of a political slugfest on the backs of dead Americans. It's just plain wrong, and it's unworthy of our great country. Ban on Taxpayer-Funded Sex Changes Ends The revolution in LGBT rights continues. The Department of Health and Human Services ruled Friday to end a ban on Medicare covering sex-reassignment surgery. The ban was instituted in 1981 for fear of "serious complications" resulting from "experimental" surgery, but the procedures are now considered to be safe. This does not mean Medicare will start paying for sex changes, but it does mean Medicare will no longer be prevented from doing so when claims are made. No word on Medicaid though.
