'Big data' technique improves monitoring of kidney transplant patients Posted: 27 Jun 2014 06:49 AM PDT A new data analysis technique radically improves monitoring of kidney patients, according to a new study and could lead to profound changes in the way we understand our health. |
Mining mountains of data for medical insights Posted: 24 Jun 2014 02:23 PM PDT Scientists have tested a powerful new method for predicting the progress of common diseases through time by teasing out previously undetected patterns from a very large data set -- in this case, the health records of Denmark's entire population. This approach maps out surprising correlations: a disease like gout -- a form of arthritis -- is strongly linked to cardiovascular disease, for example. In the future, this could enable physicians to make diagnoses sooner using simple tests in combination with known disease progression patterns. |
An entire country's disease development: Researchers map route from illness to illness Posted: 24 Jun 2014 11:06 AM PDT Researchers have followed six million Danes for 15 years through patient and disease registers. Studies in the complex data landscape now enable researchers to pinpoint very busy routes for widespread diseases such as cancer, arthritis and diabetes. This is the first time that researchers have analyzed big data relating to an entire country's disease development. |
