Read it at The Daily Beast WTF 2. Village Council in India Orders Rape According to her family and police, a 14-year-old girl was taken into the forest and raped on orders of her village council. The order came as punishment for her brother's sexual assault. "We kept begging them. We begged with folded hands but they would not listen. They dragged her away to the forest," the victim's mother said. The police say they have arrested two men, the village headman and the husband of the woman who says she was molested by the victim's brother. The brother has also been arrested. U.S. Knew of Snowden Files' Destruction Newly declassified documents show that the White House knew ahead of time that the British government was going to destroy hard drives belonging to The Guardian newspaper that contained NSA documents from Edward Snowden. The Guardian destroyed the data in response to threats from the U.K. government. When news of the destruction broke, White House spokesman Josh Earnest had said publicly when asked whether the U.S. would ever do such a thing, that it would be "very difficult to imagine a scenario in which that would be appropriate." One of the U.S. officials notified, NSA Deputy Director Richard Ledgett, apparently praised the move by the British government, writing in an email, "Good news, at least on this front." Read it at The Associated Press HORROR 5. 255 Sunnis Executed in Iraq According to Human Rights Watch, since June 9 at least 255 prisoners in Iraq have been executed in "extrajudicial killings." The murdered prisoners were Sunni, and they appear to be revenge killings for atrocities inflicted by ISIS (also Sunni) by the Shia-majority security forces and militias. At least eight of those killed were boys under the age of 18. Most of the executions took place by shooting the prisoners, while in one case dozens were set on fire, and in two separate instances grenades were thrown into cells holding prisoners. The killings also may have come in response to reports that ISIS was freeing Sunni prisoners as it marched south.
