Cheat Sheet - Obama's Plan to Confuse 5 Million Immigrants

Read This, Skip That ....

November 21, 2014
HUH?

Last night the president announced his executive order to not deport millions of undocumented immigrants. There's a catch though: They have to turn themselves into the feds, get fingerprinted, and turn over all personal information. Ruben Navarrette Jr. writes many will say, "Thanks but no thanks."

Legal Salvos

Texas Governor-Elect Greg Abbott pledged to challenge President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration in court. Abbott, who will serve as Texas' attorney general until he succeeds Gov. Rick Perry in January, made his vow Thursday, shortly after the president issued expansive executive actions to spare nearly 5 million people in the U.S. illegally from deportation. In a statement, Abbott said, "President Obama has circumvented Congress and deliberately bypassed the will of the American people, eroding the very foundation of our nation's Constitution and bestowing a legacy of lawlessness." Separately, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt announced prior to Obama's speech that the state will bring forward legal action.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson, who fatally shot Michael Brown on Aug. 9, is in the final stages of negotiations with the Missouri city's officials to resign, sources close to the talks told CNN. The grand jury hearing evidence in the case is preparing to meet Friday for what might be its final session. A decision on whether to charge Wilson in the death of the unarmed teen could come the same day. Wilson has told associates he would resign to help ease pressure and protect his fellow officers, but he's expressed concern about resigning while the grand jury was hearing evidence for fear it would appear he was admitting fault.

WIZARD OF OZ

People claiming to be psychics preyed on the elderly with a mail-order scheme that made some of them more than $15 million a year. Jacob Siegel reports on how these fraudsters tricked hundreds of thousands of the elderly and vulnerable into sending personal checks for fortunes that never showed up.

FINGERS CROSSED

Pope Francis has gained a reputation for shedding much of the papal protection his predecessors enjoyed. That may cause a problem when he visits the Middle East next week. Barbie Latza Nadeau reports on threats like ISIS or lone-wolf attackers that are keeping his security detail awake at night.
