OVER-SHARING
The former Navy SEAL who first claimed credit for killing Osama bin Laden in 2011 is now under investigation by the NCIS, The Daily Beast's Shane Harris has exclusively learned. His crime: revealing too much about the mission. While others have also come forward as the one who fired the fatal shot, will Robert O'Neill's quick claim to fame end up working against him?
IT'S A GO
Sony announced that The Interview will premiere as scheduled on Christmas Day—at least in certain theaters. The Plaza Theater in Atlanta and the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas/Fort Worth were among the first to say they will screen the movie. A source told The Hollywood Reporter that Sony is letting theaters know that The Interview will simultaneously be available on VOD. The studio had nixed the Christmas debut after a hacking group threatened to attack screenings. Seth Rogen, one of the movie's stars, was thrilled with the decision. "The people have spoken! Freedom has prevailed!" he wrote on Twitter. A White House spokesman said President Obama applauded Sony's decision, adding that the U.S. was a country that "believes in free speech."
FREE FOR ALL
Now that the NRA has lost its battle to block President Obama's nominee for surgeon general, John Feinblatt runs down the rest of the lobbying group's Christmas wish list. Highlights include guns for felons, terror suspects, domestic abusers, the mentally ill, and in bars.
GET IT TOGETHER
Who, exactly, is behind Ready for Romney? Tim Mak reports that the new super PAC for the 2012 runner-up is being led by a 26-year-old who has never worked on a campaign, let alone for the former governor.
AUDACITY OF HOPE
Photos of the rapper's perp walk capture a society that indicts a 20-year-old for selling crack—but not a police officer for choking the life out of a citizen. His story, says Rawiya Kameir, is a reminder of a legal system that ends with black boys in jail cells.
