I am a firm believer in a lot of this. Especially about tarnishing your image. I have read a bunch of articles about how employers are looking up job applicants Facebook pages and "Facebook stalking" to see if this is someone that they really want to hire.

This was a good article with some useful tips for job seekers. Job searching is time consuming and hard work. If you want a job, you must put forth the effort of going out, introducing yourself in person, and letting employers know that you are truly interested in working for their company. Networking is also very valuable. Knowing certain people can make a difference when searching for a job.

These are some great tips, some of the tips like video resume I never though about that, that's a great way to get the employer to get to know you as a person before an interview. Another great tip is finding your niche, and narrowing you search down.

I have read this article before and its always nice to have little tid bits like this before going on a job search. The moving thing is huge. Traveling with just you is one thing but bringing a family, especially if you have children is really something to look into. I really liked how they mentioned that even though you know the economy is bad that you can't just deal with the crap forever, sometimes you need to reevaluate things. Time to me is the most important thing they mentioned. You get what you give and if you only devote a small amount of time to searching you will not turn up with enough.

I personally believe that the tip to Google yourself is one of the most important because there can be so many things out on the internet that you don't even know about and these things can potentially hurt you when applying for a job.

I feel that these are some great points. Having a little page of your own can really help cater to future job openings. It makes it easier hopefully, to see your body of work, etc... The internet is amazing, so you should be able to narrow a job search down to the smallest degree, for those really niche positions. Unfortunately you would be surprised at what you would find if you searched your name. I in fact found a link to a facebook group started that had mentioned something about me at one point in time.

These are some very useful tips. Job hunting is a pain and stressful. I think these tips will make it easier especially after graduation and not looking for a job to work around classes.

I found some useful information in that article and some not-so-useful information. I don’t think my future employer is looking for the kind of person that sends a video resume LOL.

40. I think that while in school students find out about many useful things, but nothing truthfully about the outside world. I think instead of having that extra art or science class “that we wont use” we should have a class about getting a job. This could only help the image of the university in the future and be extremely beneficial to the students.

Wow is all I can say these are some really great tips for job seekers. I will be graduating in May and can use all the tips I can get. I have already started to apply different places and was curious on what I could do to stand out to employers. Although I like the internet I do not like having to apply for jobs online. I feel that this is a very impersonal way of finding a job.

Andre Bendana said...

I believe this is valuable advice for anyone looking for a job no matter how old they are. Online job hunting has become fundamental for working in any place that contains some value. If we follow these comprehensive tips, we should be able to develop a competent chance to apply with determination in a responsible and innovate way.

Great tips in the article about how to prepare for the next level. Proffesionalism is something people lack and this is a great tool to help you work on that. Also tips on handling your resume are pretty huge to learn to considering it can depend on you getting a job or not.

THE TIPS THAT ARE GIVEN IN THE ARTICLE ARE VERY HELPFUL.NETWORKING IS IS ALWAYS A GOOD WAY TO GET A JOB. I NEVER HEARD OF A VIDEO RESUME THAT'S SOMETHING NEW TO ME. WHEN I SEARCH FOR A JOB I ALWAYS USE QUERIES AND I MUST SAY IT REALLY HELPS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO YOU WANT TO WORK FOR OR WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.

These guidelines are remarkably helpful to graduates and people seeking employment. I plan to follow this procedure once I get closer to graduation. These are steps I have never given a thought to or even knew existed. The information offers good guidance and professional advice.

I think all of this information is very useful for me because I am about to go out and look for a job. It is important to remember that you need to google yourself online and see what comes up. People also need to be aware that they should clean up their facebook pages.

I've been doing a lot of job hunting lately, since due to ethical issues I had to turn down the one offer I had received thus far which had made me rather lazy about looking until after I found out the information. Luckily, it seems I've been doing a lot of the right things and can only hope it helps me seeing as I graduate at the end of the spring. I just wish there was more information on the damage control.

Looking for a job online can be very difficult. Employers receive so many different applications without actually meeting the people, it's important to make yourself stand out. If employers only choose a small amount of people to actually interview, they are going to choose the people with the best skills and who stands out with their resume.

I feel that all the information in the article is correct. Many people think that if they delete something on the internet that it just goes away but this isn't true. I know they we should all Google ourselves and see what comes up. I know that I try not to put anything on Face book that I wouldn't want my mom or an employer to see. I feel this way I avoid any potential future employers from not hiring me because of my face book page.

I think this article had some great advice on job hunting. Everyone has many questions of what to do after college and how to make yourself look good to get a good job and this definitely helps.

Great article for anyone how is serious about finding a job. The key is having a good resume and not being scared of rejection. You should send your resume to as many firms as possible. I feel that many friends of mine are limiting themselves by holding on to their resumes too tightly. Job hunting can equate to dating. Key is dont be shy.

I enjoyed reading all of the advice given in this article. I think it's helpful to all of us going into the job market. I've never actually used a website to find a job, but there's a large possibility I will eventually. It's good to know what things to avoid and what things to incorporate when applying. So far, my connections with business professionals and other people has led to more potential interviews and internships than anything else.

I am graduating in December and every piece of advice helps because of the condition that the job market is in right now, and this advice could help anyone land their next job.

All of these are so true. I agree the most with connecting. Networking and knowing multiple different people in many different sector will help an individual. Who you know is major. Also, doing a check on yourself. I have seen friends and coworkers have this bit them in the wrong place so many times. They need to google or look themselves up and see what type of image the internet has to say about them.

Lin said...

I think one of the most stressful things about looking for a job is making sure your resume is in proper order. Also, I feel that your resume should be tailored to the specific job you are applying for. This could mean that you have to change your resume several times with each new job application. These helpful tips are very good in keeping you in check with all aspects of being the best person for a specific job. Be confident, follow these tips and you should be okay.

I liked reading these. I never thought a video resume would be an idea that even passed my mind, but it is a good idea. This article states that people who are looking for a job needs to get out there and put them self out there. It is really annoying when people think that they just need to apply for a job and wait for a call. That just shows how lazy they are and it gets them nowhere esp. no job.

This is great advice, especailly for those who don't have a lengthy resume. I have currently started my job searching and it is quite a difficult and frustrating process. It is nice to know a few tips when going into or searching for jobs. I big problem with college graduates is they are new to the process and don't know how to approach the situation. Great information!

Donald Bastoe said...

I think this advice is going a bit too far. Creating a website is very time consuming, and not conforming to standards can be bothersome to those that need to look at all of the resumes. Same with videos. And if you DO happen to find something bad about yourself on the internet, the only real damage control is to hope they don’t see it and prepare to defend yourself should it be brought up, but that’s reactive, not really proactive.

The rest of the advice is solid.

Monica Crane said...

I really enjoyed this advice. Quite a bit of it I already knew, but it's nice to see that when you're getting information from people that it links up to what professionals are saying to do when it comes to searching for a job or how to present yourself through your resume. I did not think about creating a profile web site to post my resume and things that I have achieved. I think this is a great idea and shows potential employers the skills that I’ve been taught through my education. I think it also speaks for the school that you have graduated from.

Jonathan Byrd said...

I like most of the advice in this article. This is some very beneficial information that will help anyone making a resume especially someone who does not have much experience in resume making. I think making a website is asking a little much. I don't know how or have time to make a resume and I don't know many people that do.

Lauren Guy said...

I like this article, I think the most important is to get connected. Being able to network yourself is a great tool to help you in your professional life. Some of the other i have already learned in school, but this a great article for ones who need to know how to start their job hunt.

Ricky Albin said...

Most of these tips are things that I have never even thought of. Video Resume? Brilliant. The key to having a good chance in obtaining a certain job is to stand out. What better way to stand out than to go above and beyond in making your resume?

Katherine Couret said...

I think these points are very helpful. I find the one about making a website that is based on your resume very interesting. it also stated that a video would also make you stand out from others. Standing out does help the employer notice you easily but you definitely need to have the sources they are looking for in a person. So these tips are very helpful to get you started on the job hunting.

I am about to graduate in December and I am so glad that I saw this video. It is such an inspiration to see that no matter how many times I get told NO, that I can not stop trying. Stepping out of my "comfort zone" will be the hardest one, but I think I will be willing to do it.

Jordan Hymel said...

This was really great. It can be really helpful to gain completive advantage over other people trying to get the same job. The website for your work seems to be a great idea. Also, searching for yourself in Google can really save yourself. Our baseball coaches make us do the same to keep us eligible and not get in trouble for private life things that may not be seen as representing of the university.

victoriab said...

often times then none, job hunting is time consuming and stressful. These were great tips. especially the one about taking your time. You have to be patient. I know its tough, and boy is it a pain in the you know what, but in the long run its better to wait and be patient and find the right job for you then to settle and be miserable in a job you take just because.

c0mpl3xity said...

Fairly decent article and could be helpful, but most jobs are found through networking and who you know even in the age of the interweb!

Blaine Bennett said...

I think that applying online for jobs can limit a persons ability to show what they have to offer. There are a few people I know of that are real book smart, but couldn't think on their toes well enough in front of a panel during an interview. The only upside of online job sites is it makes it easier to find classified ads versus how it use to be in just the newspaper.

Megan VanderMeulen said...

The information in this article is definitely useful and something to keep in mind when job searching. I think the most helpful tip was to check google to make sure you know what comes up. I did this recently and went and deleted my Myspace and other social sites that I don't use.

Job hunting can be one of the most stressful things you'll have to do, and most graduating college students aren't prepared. Articles like these help me learn how to be prepared for the difficult things that can get confusing like an interview or a resume. The best thing to do is to keep learning and work your hardest to be the best.

Ann Lightfoot said...

I am also graduating in May and every piece of advice helps because of the condition that the job market is in right now. I also have the same resume problem, and yes more tips about resumes would also be helpful!
