Back in March, we covered the development of a reverse auction site for legal services (Shpoonkle: http://ping.fm/hzSs5), which threatens to radically reshape the business model that lawyers have operated under since - well, the clock was invented, see:
Now, the ABA Journal has provided an interesting update on Robert Grant Niznik's baby - see:
More Than a Quirky Name, Shpoonkle Aims to Get Legal Reverse-Auction Model Right - Magazine - ABA Journal
MY concern from the article - scale. Even with all the publicity - both largely positive from the media and scathing criticism from much of the legal community - Niznik claims only 400 users. Does this mean there won't be "critical mass" for buyers and sellers of legal services? For any online e-marketplace to "work" - you've got to have supply and demand. Seems like a great idea, but....whether the chicken or the egg comes first, you need activity.

That quote of 400 users is old - the site has well over 1000 + users now. So the site has been active and productive - hence the 2nd article from the ABA they are getting the job done. Also, an important note - many sites have lots of people on their site or directory via a marketing database - the shpoonkle site has ACTUAL users who have registered and are members big difference in the supply and demand equation.
