BREAKING NEWS: January U.S. Budget Deficit Narrows from Year Earlier

The U.S. federal budget deficit fell to $27.4 billion in January from $49.8 billion in the same month last year, the Treasury Department said on Friday. However, Treasury notes part of the narrowing is the result of benefit payments usually made in January shifting to December.
