Planned Parenthood Giving Soars Amid Komen Fallout Planned Parenthood says private donations spiked after the cancer foundation Susan G. Komen for the Cure cut off funding earlier this week. In the 24 hours since Komen announced its decision, Planned Parenthood has received $650,000 in donations, nearly enough to offset the losses from Komen's withdrawn grant. Nevada Poll: Romney Has Strong Lead Coming off a big win in the Florida primary, Mitt Romney hits Nevada with a double digit lead over his nearest rival, Newt Gingrich. According to a new poll by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and 8NewsNow, Romney has 45 percent support in the Silver State, followed by Gingrich with 25 percent, Rick Santorum with 11 percent and Ron Paul in fourth place with 9 percent. Despite Romney's overall lead, the majority of those in Nevada who strongly support the Tea Party movement lean toward Gingrich. Romney's also currently leading by 15 points in Michigan, according to a new Rasmussen poll. Romney's birth state will hold its primary on February 28.  Read it at Las Vegas Review-Journal TRAGIC 3. Egyptians Protest Handling of Riot Egyptians gathered in Tahrir Square on Thursday, this time to protest the government's handling of a deadly soccer riot. Clashes between fans of two soccer teams left at least 79 dead. Egyptian soccer fans have a reputation for violence, but the unusually light security at Wednesday's game—fans were allowed to bring knives—has some wondering whether police intended the riot as a lesson. It comes days after the partial lifting of the country's emergency laws, and fans known as the Ultras have been implicated in confronting police in recent political protests. Egypt's Parliament held an emergency session Thursday and declared three days of mourning. "Egypt spent its night crying over its dead," Parliament Speaker Saad Katatni said in a statement. Angry fans have occupied Tahrir Square and plan to march on the interior ministry. President Obama tied Christianity to his policy proposals—specifically taxes—at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday. Obama argued that the wealthiest Americans should be expected to pay higher taxes because "I think that it's going to make economic sense, but for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus' teaching that 'for unto whom much is given, much shall be required.'" He went on to insist that "we can all benefit from turning to our Creator, listening to him. Avoiding phony religiosity ... this is especially important right now, when we're facing some big challenges as a nation." Read it at Politico GROUNDHOG DAY 5. PA Groundhog Sees His Shadow Punxsultawney's famous groundhog, Phil, emerged from his burrow to see his shadow Thursday, signaling six more weeks of winter. Temperatures were near freezing when he came out at dawn—following this winter's pattern of unusually warm weather. The "prediction" is, however, just a ceremonial tradition: a group called the Inner Circle meets to decide in advance what Phil's ruling will be.
