Tornadoes Leave 38 Dead Residents in the Midwest and the South on Sunday mourned the deaths of at least 38 people killed by tornadoes and storms as the cleanup effort began. Deaths were reported in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, and Georgia after a string of killer tornadoes swept through the area, destroying entire communities. But there were also stories of survival: 11 schoolchildren weathered a storm by taking cover under their desks in Indiana, and in Kentucky five people had to huddle in a basement as a church collapsed above them. Russia Voters Allege Fraud Russians headed to the voting booth Sunday, as current Prime Minister and former president Vladimir Putin sought a convincing return to the nation's highest office. But opponents said the presidential election was marred by fraud, listing alleged irregularities online while vowing to step up protests against Putin. The watchdog agency Golos said there were reports of busloads of voters being driven around to cast ballots multiple times at different voting stations. Read it at The Moscow Times GOP 4. Romney Wins Washington Caucuses More inevitability for Mitt Romney? Media outlets called Saturday night's GOP caucuses in Washington early in the night as the former governor took a double-digit lead. With all of the state's precincts reporting, Romney had 37 percent of the vote, while Ron Paul took 25 percent, just a percentage point ahead of Rick Santorum. Newt Gingrich was far behind at 10 percent. Ron Paul was the only candidate in Washington when the caucuses began; the others were all campaigning in Ohio in preparation for Super Tuesday. Red Cross Tries to Enter Homs The Red Cross hoped to enter the Syrian city of Homs for a third day Sunday, but government troops were still blocking their access and preventing them from delivering aid to besieged residents. "We have the green light. We hope to enter. We hope today is the day," said the Red Cross's Syria spokesman, Saleh Dabbakeh. "We are very concerned about the people in Baba Amro," he said, referring to the isolated neighborhood bombarded by forces loyal to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. A witness in the border town of Qusair, south of Homs, said government forces shelled the town and forced residents to flee on foot to neighboring Lebanon.
