| | April 14, 2012 | | RUMOR HAS IT Speculation about Hillary Clinton in 2016 just won’t die. But the secretary of state will only have a shot if she’s learned the painful lessons of the disastrous 2008 campaign, writes The Daily Beast’s Paul Begala. WHAT HAPPENS IN CARTAGENA This behavior isn’t going to stay secret for long. The U.S. Secret Service has recalled 12 agents in Colombia after allegations of misconduct. The president arrived in the nation for the Summit of the Americas, which started Friday. While Obama’s security has not been compromised, at least one agent had “involvement” with a prostitute in Cartagena, and the entire unit has been called back for the investigation. Prostitution is legal in pockets of Colombia, though the Secret Service considers it inappropriate—and some of the agents were married. In the last year, there were two other incidents with the Secret Service: a murder charge and DUI. TWISTERS A tornado hit Norman, home of the University of Oklahoma, Friday, leaving structural damage but no serious injuries. Saturday, more severe weather, specifically a tornado outbreak, is expected for the Pplains. This outbreak is expected to start late in the day and target the I-35 corridor, which includes Oklahoma City and Wichita, Kans. Several funnel clouds have been reported over Oklahoma City, though none have touched down. Forecasters have issued warnings of “life-threatening” storms. GUN LOVERS UNITE Mitt Romney failed to touch on the NRA's core issues at the group's annual convention in St. Louis, but he still got a few standing ovations. Newt Gingrich one-upped him by proposing the “Gingrich Doctrine,” a U.N. treaty to give everyone the right to bear arms. ANTI-CEASEFIRE Technically, this violates the definition of a “truce.” As the Syrian ceasefire agreement enters day three, the city of Homs has been shelled again. The bombings have reportedly targeted two major hubs, Jouret al-Shiyah and al-Qaradis. The violence comes after 5 were killed Friday after security forces opened fire at a protest. Saturday, the U.N. Security Council is expected to vote again on a resolution to send 30 monitors into the nation. | |
