A bombing outside a school in the southern Italian town of Brindisi has claimed the life of a teenage girl. Several others were injured. No one has claimed responsibility.

Greece formally dissolved its parliament on Saturday and formalized the date for new elections amid allegations that Angela Merkel suggested a referendum should be held on whether Greece wants to stay in the eurozone.

Bomb shakes eastern Syrian city after anti-regime protests
A car bomb has killed nine people in Syria's eastern city of Deir Ezzor. State media said 100 people were also injured. It is the first such bombing in the city since Syria's anti-regime uprising began 15 months ago.

Private US spacecraft launch aborted at last minute
The launch of a private US spacecraft has been aborted after last-minute technical concerns. SpaceX's Dragon capsule was due to be the first non-government craft to try and reach the International Space Station.

Blind Chinese activist boards plane for US
Blind Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng has reportedly left Beijing on a plane bound for the United States. Chen escaped house arrest last month and fled to the US embassy, sparking a high-profile diplomatic row.

Claim of 'aggressive' military espionage rejected by China
The Chinese government has dismissed as unjust a report by the US Pentagon that Beijing is involved in aggressive espionage to build up China's military might.
