Last year, Alex Rodriguez had the worst season of his career, hitting just .276 with 16 home runs. However, injuries limited A-Rod to just 99 games and there was sill hope that his bat could return to dominating levels if he could just stay healthy.
But nearly one-third into the 2012 season, and not only is Rodriguez not dominating, but his numbers are even worse this year. And unfortunately for A-Rod and the Yankees, it is just part of a continuing trend that shows no sign of improving.
A-Rod is still a good hitter, with a .283 batting average, a .370 OBP, and seven home runs. But his OPS (OBP+SLG) would be the lowest since he was 19 (1995). It would also be the fifth straight season in which his OPS has declined.
