Et tu, Harvard faculty? -- Obama to go for the Pulitzer? -- The Daily Show meets Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous -- No love for Eric Holder -- Tweets of Yesterday | 1.) Et tu, Harvard faculty? -- President Obama's policies have lost him several important constituencies, but the Harvard faculty? At least one former supporting prof is coming out against him ... for being too conservative. TheDC's Gregg Re reports:
"Harvard Law School professor Roberto Unger, who taught President Barack Obama classes such as Jurisprudence and Reinventing Democracy, said last month in a little-publicized video that his former student has betrayed liberals and should lose the presidency in November. 'President Obama must be defeated in the coming election,' Unger said in a sit-down video posted to his YouTube account in May, which also attacked the Republican party ... '[Obama] has failed to advance the progressive cause.'"
The Harvard faculty is Obama's natural habitat. It's like Mitt Romney losing Wall Street financiers or Joe Biden losing plagiarists. Fortunately for Obama, it's just one left-wing professor --- for now. | 2.) Obama to go for the Pulitzer? -- The president is a great writer of fiction (as BuzzFeed documented) so any project he picks up is sure to be stellar. And given the fact that he gets awards for just being Obama (we're looking at you Nobel Peace Prize and Grammy), you can bet any new book he writes will be a top contender for the Pulitzer. But rewriting The Bible? That sounds like a tough task. TheDC's Michelle Fields reports:
"Former GOP presidential nominee Herman Cain said Friday that President Obama 'wants to rewrite the Bible according to Obama.' 'This president wants to redefine marriage,' Cain said in a speech at the Freedom and Faith Conference in Washington, D.C. 'He wants to rewrite the Bible according to Obama. I have an announcement for the President of the United States: Mr. President, God gets all the votes and you can’t rewrite the Bible.' During the speech, Cain also slammed the president for wanting to 'rewrite the dictionary.'"
This is a tough call, but it appears that Herman Cain just might be kidding. Though he may be on to something with the dictionary thing. The president is doing a fine job changing the definitions of words (i.e. to follow has been redefined to mean to lead, its opposite, as in leading from behind.) | 3.) The Daily Show meets Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous -- Jon Stewart's a very rich man, reports Sally Nelson for TheDC:
"Comedy Central host Jon Stewart regularly bashes American multimillionaires for their wealth while ignoring the awkward fact that he’s one of them ... Though Stewart distances himself from the 'one-percenters' and bellows over their extravagance, his bank accounts bear all the marks of the 'multi, multi, multi, multi millionaires' he mocks. The 49-year-old Stewart, born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, makes more than 300 times the median American salary, owns three luxury homes and sometimes doesn’t pay his taxes."
Three hundred times the median American worker? Talk about income inequality. He ought to spread that wealth around to his staff --- at least if the funny man wishes to be ideologically consistent. | 4.) No love for Eric Holder -- Several black journalists are questioning why the White House and black leaders aren't being more aggressive in defending Eric Holder. TheDC's Jeff Poor reports:
"Some black journalists sympathetic to Attorney General Eric Holder’s political plight have been underwhelmed with the support being provided to him by the White House and leaders within the black community... [Roland] Martin, who is also a contributor for CNN, expressed bewilderment that the White House and black leaders have not done more to defend Holder, especially when compared to how two of George W. Bush’s controversial attorney generals were vigorously defended by their supporters. 'I’m saying looking at various cable shows, looking at what’s in print, I am not seeing the aggressive defense of the attorney general,” Martin said. “I think back to President George W. Bush. I look at AG Alberto Gonzalez. I look at John Ashcroft. And again, I mean, you saw folks saying we’re going to have your back. And I’m looking at again black leadership.
