Two separate trials of leaders accused of crimes against humanity during the Bosnian war are scheduled to begin on Tuesday. Both men standing trial are seeking to convince the courts of their innocence.

Portugal has been hit by a new round of harsh austerity measures. The Portuguese government announced large tax hikes and spending cuts in its 2013 budget, just two days after mass protests.

Argentine navy chief resigns over Ghana debacle
The head of Argentina's navy has left his position. Although the government has given no official reason, the announcement follows an incident in Ghanaian waters, which has caused Buenos Aires embarrassment.

Israel votes to dissolve parliament
Last week Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu called for early elections in Israel. Now, parliament has responded by dissolving the House and setting January 22 as the election date - nine months ahead of schedule.
