RESURRECTION

America's hottest pastor wants to get back in the game. Marking the 10th anniversary of his highly influential 2002 book The Purpose Driven Life, the pop preacher tells Newsweek he's been spurred into action by President Obama's reelection. "The country is on a slide toward Europe," he says, and only a grassroots spiritual revolution can fix it. So why did the man who famously brokered a sit-down between 2008's presidential nominees—and gave the invocation at Obama's inauguration—fall off the map in the first place? Michelle Cottle reports.

WARNING

Life is good for President Obama and the Democrats right now—but David Frum warns of turmoil on the horizon. The White House may not have the upper hand in the "fiscal cliff" debate for long, especially if ambitious Republicans like Paul Ryan choose to lay down a gauntlet. Then there's the potential freezing over of the Arab Spring, wherein a revolution that has seen an Islamist seizure of power leads to instability for oil producers and, in effect, the global economy. Speaking of which, China stands poised to replace the United States as the world's largest economy in the next decade. In Newsweek, Frum warns that President Obama better not let America's decline happen under his watch, lest it taint his legacy.

COMEBACK

A day after linebacker Jovan Belcher killed the mother of his child and then himself, the Kansas City Chiefs had a game to win. Tim Marchman talks to former Cardinals manager Tony La Russa on managing after a death.

RIGHT AND WRONG

In a series of pioneering new studies, one researcher has found that killing—and the subsequent pain of guilt—is the single greatest risk factor for post-traumatic stress disorder, bigger even than heavy combat. As U.S. veterans battle a suicide epidemic, in which a former serviceman takes his own life every 90 minutes, Newsweek's Tony Dokoupil reports on the newest information about the moral injuries plaguing our soldiers.

TOMB RAIDERS

A team of Americans and Mongolians may be on their way to uncovering one of history's biggest mysteries: the secret burial site of ruthless 13th-century conqueror Genghis Khan. Scientists from all over the world have long tried—and failed—to pinpoint Khan's mythologic tomb, but compelling new evidence discovered in an area historically associated with Khan's grave site suggest this current expedition might actually be on to something. "I cannot think of another historical figure that we know so little about," Albert Lin, a National Geographic explorer and one of the project's lead investigators, tells Newsweek. So what will they find?
