UNCOVERED

Aaron Hernandez, the pro football player charged with one murder and suspected in others, had just gotten over his anger at his father's untimely death—and signed a contract with the New England Patriots—when his mother was stabbed. The Daily Beast's Michael Daly reports.

ON THE MOVE

Things are looking up for Edward Snowden, the former intelligence analyst who blew the whistle on the U.S. government's secret data collection program. It looks like he may be able to leave Sheremetyevo airport on Wednesday after spending a month confined there in a bid for asylum. His lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, said they expect the Russian government to grant Snowden papers that will allow him to travel into the city. Snowden has applied for temporary asylum in Russia, but that application could take up to three months to process. Snowden has been trying to get to Latin America but fears that it would be unsafe to travel there sooner because the American government has been trying extradite him back to the U.S. He is facing espionage charges.

Inequality

When it comes to class mobility, geography is destiny, or at least a large part of it, according to a new study of earnings records. It's much easier to climb the income ladder in certain cities—New York, Boston, Seattle—than in others, such as Atlanta, Charlotte, and Columbus. It's not just that high-mobility cities have higher average incomes: Seattle and Atlanta's average income is about the same, but fairly poor children who grow up in Seattle do as well as middle-class children in Atlanta, where concentrated poverty, bad traffic, and weak public transit make it difficult for low-income people to get to jobs.

UM, THIS HAPPENED?

Florida police say that George Zimmerman—who's been in hiding since being acquitted of the murder of Trayvon Martin—pulled someone from a truck that had rolled over on a Florida highway. The crash happened last week at the intersection of I-4 and Route 417. Zimmerman's act of heroism probably won't decrease the number of death threats he's received since the trial.
