RED-HANDED

Mel Reynolds was arrested in Zimbabwe on Tuesday for allegedly shooting thousands of porno images. That's 20 years after he was thrown in jail for child porn, statutory rape, and more. Will this creep ever learn? Michelle Cottle wonders if we'll finally be rid of this habitual skeezeball.

LETHAL CHAOS

Just two days after the opposition reached an amnesty deal with the government, violence broke out again in Ukraine's capital over control of Kiev's city hall. Authorities are reporting that nine people have been killed in fighting, including two police officers. Angry protesters had left the city hall on Sunday as part of the deal, but have returned to seize the building. The violence began early Tuesday when protesters moved into a government-controlled district, throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at police. The interior ministry and Ukrainian security service threatened in a joint statement: "We warn hot, irresponsible heads of the opposition—the government has forces to restore order."

WRONG WORD

Michael Dunn doesn't seem to understand the meaning of "victim." Dunn, who fired on a car of unarmed teenagers and killed 17-year-old Jordan Davis, was recorded in jailhouse calls released by prosecutors today, claiming, "I'm the [expletive deleted] victim here. I was the one who was victimized." He also chuckled and added "I'm the victor," and compared his predicament to that of a rape victim. He said in one call, "Police used to think when a chick got raped going, 'Oh, it's her fault because of the way she dressed.' I'm like, 'So it's my fault [laughing] because I asked them to turn their music down." Dunn will spend at least 60 years in prison for the attempted-murder conviction, and may face trial for first-degree murder.

STRANGE BEDFELLOWS

Moderate rebels say the Syrian president is secretly collaborating with a rogue al Qaeda affiliate in the country's brutal civil war. But are Sunni jihadists really in bed with the Alawite regime? The Syrian civil war may have sparked one of the strangest alliances ever, writes Jamie Dettmer.

SKY SCARE

A desperate co-pilot locked himself in the cockpit and diverted his Boeing 767 to Switzerland with 164 people aboard—the eighth such hijacking on Ethiopian Airlines by asylum-seeking aviators. Barbie Latza Nadeau writes of the desperation Hailemedhin Abera must have had to hijack his own airplane.
