Today's advice comes from Spirit Airlines CEO Ben Baldanza's interview with the AP:

"In 2006, we decided we were going to run Spirit as an airline that competes on the basis of price and price alone. Making that decision made it easier for us to make other decisions about how to run the business that are probably very difficult for other airlines."

Adding more seats to planes, charging passengers for carry-on luggage, and offering higher fees for aisle seats are compromises passengers are willing to pay for because of cheaper ticket prices.

"You start asking yourselves why would I put fewer seats on the airplane than the airplane can hold? At some point you’ve got to get tired of losing money."

Baldanza says Spirit Airlines became successful after they grouped airlines into two buckets: extremely high premium airlines, or extremely low-cost ones. This way they found a niche in the middle, he says.

	Mets Losing More Ground To Yankees It is hard to believe now, but New York used to be a Mets town. From 1984 through 1992, the Mets outdrew the Yankees every year. But since then, the Yankees have won five World Series, and the Mets have owner issues and are still paying Bobby Bonilla. The result is a growing divide between the Mets and Yankees in a town that is now decidedly pro-pinstripes. So far in 2011, the Yankees are selling 44,359 tickets per game, which is 47.1 percent more than the 30,153 at Citi Field for the Mets. And the same is being seen in the TV ratings. On the Yankees YES Network, an average of 309,000 households tune in per game. That is 78.6 percent more than the number of households tuning into SNY to watch the Mets (173,000).
