| | | | | Today's advice comes from Gum Gum CEO Ophir Tanz's interview with Business 2 Community: "Entrepreneurs are typically idea people, which means they have, well, lots of ideas. Resist the urge to pursue 'side projects' and short-term revenue. I know how tempting it could be, but it will detract from, and potentially endanger, the larger goal." Tanz oversees Gum Gum, the firm that pioneered in-image advertising. By overlaying text or flash content on images, its clients can monetize image-based content. Tanz works with companies including Time Warner and Hearst Corporation — not bad for a startup launched in 2007. Skyrocketing to success takes a keen sense of focus, Tanz says. Without a clear direction and people and systems in place to propel you on your desired trajectory, your business will suffer. If you commit to goals and build upon them, you stand a much greater chance for sustained success than giving into the temptation of adding just one more idea to the mix. Hang onto it. If all goes well, there will be time and energy to properly nurture that idea later. Want your business advice featured in Instant MBA? Submit your tips to tipoftheday@businessinsider.com.
