BREAKING NEWS: Stocks Soar on Overseas Optimism, Holiday Sales

The major stock-market averages are surging to start the week as hope builds that Europe is closer to an agreement to ease its sovereign-debt woes. A solid start to the holiday selling season is also pushing equities higher. The Dow is up 306 points, or 2.7%, at 11539 and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite are both higher by more than 3%. Financial names are strong and the yield on the 10-year Treasury is up to 2.05%.
