It is that time of year again, folks, when couples (or triples!) have a designated holiday where the calendar tells them to show their significant other(s) how much they are appreciated. Whether or not you coupled people do that every day and don't require a calendar-mandated holiday to remind you why you're paired off with your significant other in the first place, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy some of the oddities that spring forth from the Internet during Valentine's Day, a collection of which we have right here for your viewing pleasure.

Today's Valentine's Day Google Doodle Shows That Google Doesn't Have the Answer for Everything [Video]

There's a lot of charm in today's animated Google Doodle for Valentine's Day. First and foremost it looks great, but there's some more subtle things to like about it. For one thing, it's the first time I've seen Google suggest that there are things you can't do with Google -- search as he might, the protagonist of the video cannot find the gift to win the heart of his lady love. Secondly, the whole thrust of the video is that there is no way to "win" someone's heart at all, and that the best connections are made when people act like themselves and share interests. Lastly, the ending montage of happy couples has a gay wedding. Way to go, Google; you really made me feel the love.

An Extremely Intricate Castle in a Bonsai Tree

An Extremely Intricate Castle in a Bonsai Tree

Japanese artist Takanori Aiba takes bonsai trees to a whole new level by infusing one with an extremely intricate castle. Aiba employed the use of copper line, epoxy putty, plastic, resin, and stone clay. Aiba has a background in maze designing, as well as a background in directing architectural spaces, so he put both of those skills to use and created the lovely castle in a bonsai tree you see above, dubbed Bonsai-B. Check out another picture of the work encased in a tasteful display after the break.

These Whimsical, Whoozical Animal Head Trophies are Seuss-Tastic

These Whimsical, Whoozical Animal Head Trophies are Seuss-Tastic

The famed Dr. Seuss made a name for himself with his stories and wordplay, but one of the most indelible aspects of his career was his boundless zoological imagination. Whether it was the Whos in Whoville or the exotic Ka-Troo, Seuss created where Darwin feared to tread. In the same style as the venerable doctor, Carl Turner has created a series of hyper-realistic animal heads in a Seussian style. Large eyes, weird antlers, and impossible birds abound in this delightful collection. See more, after the break.

Sony Hiked Up the Price of Whitney Houston's Music Less Than an Hour After Her Death

Sony Hiked Up the Price of Whitney Houston's Music Less Than an Hour After Her Death

In this age of rampant social media, death has gotten a bit complicated, especially for celebrities. Sometimes you're reported dead before your time, and if you have passed, it's only a matter of time -- 30 seconds or so -- before widespread, uncontained discussion begins. When it came to light this weekend that Whitney Houston had died, the predictable Twitter-splosion occurred, part an parcel with off-color jokes and heart-felt condolences, but something more calculatedly irreverent may have been bubbling up behind the scenes. Some are accusing Sony of initiating a price hike on one of Houston's albums presumably in order to capitalize on the "free" publicity.

Personal Data May Have Been Accessed During November Steam Intrusion

Steam, the online gaming distribution system we know and love, announced back in November that they'd been the victim of a security breach. At the time, it was reported that the hacker had accessed the Steam user database, but that no information appeared to have been compromised. However, the ongoing investigation seems to indicate that it might be worse than originally thought.

This Full-Auto Airsoft Gun Is Made Out Of A Soda Bottle

This Full-Auto Airsoft Gun Is Made Out Of A Soda Bottle

I always wanted an Airsoft gun as a kid, but I ran into two big problems: They tended to be expensive, and even if I had then money, no one was going to sell me one unless I was eighteen or had parental approval. Yeah right. If only I'd known then that I could make an fully-automatic Airsoft gun out of a soda bottle and some air compressor bits. Of course, had I known that then, I probably wouldn't have made it all the way to adulthood with a full complement of eyes. Still, I wish I'd known.
