Copies of Mass Effect 3 Launched Into The Stratosphere, Space Sphere Must Be Jealous

In order to drum up some excitement for Mass Effect 3 -- as if there weren't quite enough already -- Electronic Arts has engaged in an interesting little publicity stunt: They're launching a few copies of Mass Effect 3 into space. Well, near space; the kind of space you can get to with a weather balloon. Space travel aside, the important thing to note is that these copies will come to Earth before the official launch, and if you can find one, you'll be able to play it.

The Amazing Moving Parts of the Keck Observatory, in Time-Lapse Glory [Video]

High atop Hawaii's Mauna Kea mountain is the W.M. Keck observatory. Like most telescopes trained towards the sky, most of us are familiar with what these institutions produce during the night -- gorgeous pictures of stars, greater insight into the nature of the universe, etc. However, it takes a lot of daytime work to keep these incredibly complex and massive telescopes in working order. This video, shot by Andrew Cooper, highlights the men and women that keep telescopes running and make the science happen. Also, there are lasers.

Arrange Your Food on These Shipping Transportation Plates

From Boguslaw Sliwinski, these plates feature various modes of shipping transportation on which one can arrange food to look as though they are being transported. Each plate is ceramic, and seem to be available for purchase, though it looks as though one has to email the artist himself in order to make said purchase. Guess What Academics Voted to be German's Best English Loanword?

Guess What Academics Voted to be German's Best English Loanword?

If you weren't aware that academics convene and vote on words, they do. A group of German academics, led by Anatol Stefanowitsch, did just this, and voted on what German's best English loanword is -- something of a niche category of word-voting. A loanword is a word borrowed from another language that is incorporated into a different language. "Kiosk," for instance, is a Turkish loanword the English language took and now helps us describe makeup stands in the middle of the mall. As for what academics voted to be German's best 2011 English loanword, it's "shitstorm." The English language should be proud.

LED Suit Snowboarder Looks Like He's Straight Out of Tron

When it comes to the long, long list of things one can do, snowboarding at night while wearing a full-body LED suit probably isn't that close to the top, but that doesn't keep it from being incredibly awesome. In the freezing -13 degree (Fahrenheit) darkness of the French Alps, Jacob Sutton decided to do just that. Well, not exactly; he had a snowboarder by the name of William Huges actually do it. Sutton filmed it. The suit was made by John Spatcher and the talents of all three men come together stunningly in this lovely little film featured at Nowness and embedded below. Check it out.

What Will Probably be the Best PSN Game Ever, Journey, Finally Gets Release Date, Price

After a very long, excruciating wait, thatgamecompany's Journey has finally been dated and priced. The game will release on the PSN, soon-to-be dubbed SEN, on March 13, 2012 in the U.S., and will cost you a most likely very well spent $14.99. All signs point to this game being one of the best game releases in a long while, regardless of its cheap price tag and digital download only status, so you probably want to mark that date on your calendar, and hide an emergency $14.99 somewhere just in case.

Texting Woman Falls Down Stairs On Live TV, Doesn't Get Up [Video]

As you should be aware, there are all kinds of laws being put in place to prevent texting and driving, something that is often argued to be as dangerous as driving intoxicated. What it's always important to remember is that walking and texting can be just as dangerous --and worse-- really, really hilariously embarassing. Watch as this texting woman fails to handle a small set of stairs on live TV. After the spill, she stays down, but I can't tell if that's out of injury of crushing embarassment. Stay safe kids, that witty pun can probably wait until you stop moving.

Man Orders Most Expensive Starbucks Drink Possible, $23.60

You've probably never walked into a Starbucks and thought to yourself "How can I order the most expensive coffee possible?" Logan A. Warren, on the other hand, has. On top of that, he actually ordered it. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard; you just scan the options and pick the priciest one, right? Not so, you can purchase all sorts of upgrades for your coffee, each at extra cost. That's how Warren wound up paying $23.60 for a single coffee, and one that was practically undrinkable at that.
