U.N.impressive -- Indians give Warren back -- Not so swift on fast and furious -- VP Watch -- Poll of the Day: Mandel within striking distance in Ohio -- Tweet of Yesterday | 1.) U.N.impressive -- A critical but humorous documentary of the United Nations is set for release in June. But TheDC's Caroline May reports that one of the men behind the film doesn't have much optimism that the international body can be reformed:
"According to [Ami] Horowitz, there is no quick cure for what ails the U.N. 'I am not sure it is solvable. I think the rot is in the DNA — in the bones of this organization. We may need something new,' Horowitz told TheDC. 'But if you ask me, what I would recommend for this organization to give it one last try — I would say, First of all, you have to create some kind of accountability and transparency. I think you have to immediately reform the Human Rights Council and only countries who abide by U.N. human rights should be allowed in. I think you need to toss out a couple bad actors, starting with North Korea. If they did that, it would be a good start.'"
Unfortunately for Horowitz, his film is being released at an inopportune time. Things look like they are turning around at the United Nations. For instance, Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe was just honored by the U.N. as a "Global Leader for Tourism." Wait. He's done what to his people? Oh. We're being that Mugabe may not be the nicest leader. In fact, the award may be comically absurd -- that is, if it wasn't so, so pathetic. | 2.) Indians give Warren back -- Elizabeth Warren has not only been under fire for claiming to be Cherokee, but also for being unable to back the claim up. Now, some Cherokees are rejecting her, reports TheDC's Alex Pappas:
"More than 150 Cherokee Indians have joined a group online demanding more information from Massachusetts senate candidate Elizabeth Warren about her claims of Native American heritage. 'You claim to be Cherokee. … We don’t claim you!' the group 'Cherokees Demand Truth from Elizabeth Warren' declares on its website."
The saga continues --- thankfully. In this world of vice and woe, it's nice to have a story that's so entertaining. | | 3.) Not so swift on fast and furious -- Black Christian leaders gathered in Washington on Wednesday to hear Attorney General Eric Holder speak. But when asked by The Daily Caller's Michelle Fields what sprung to mind when they heard the phrase "Operation Fast and Furious," the leaders thought Vin Diesel, not the scandal that is engulfing Holder's tenure at the Justice Department. It's almost as if much of the media is on Team Obama. Watch the whole video. | 4.) VP Watch -- South Carolina governor Nikki Haley is occasionally mentioned as a possible VP nominee for Mitt Romney, but on Sunday she gave some suggestions of her own for the number two slot, TheDC's Alexis Levinson reports:
"Haley held a Facebook 'chat' with constituents Wednesday, answering questions posed to her on her Facebook wall. 'In your opinion, who should Romney choose for his VP candidate?' asked someone named Ryan Hodge. 'I think there are amazing candidates for VP and believe whoever Gov. Romney chooses will be part of a dream team,' Haley replied. 'My preference would be Bobby Jindal or Condi Rice.'”
Also, South Dakota Sen. John Thune wouldn't rule out taking the job if offered. | | 5.)
