To Chick-fil-A or to not Chick-fil-a, that is the question -- Loose lips sink ships -- Michigan tea partier, Paris liberator? -- Pathetic Prosecution -- Poll of the Day: Obama up in Michigan in new poll --Tweet of Yesterday | 1.) To Chick-fil-A or to not Chick-fil-a, that is the question -- How will the Obama administration weigh in on the epic moral struggle of our age? TheDC's Caroline May reports:
"Unlike many pro-gay-marriage activists who are boycotting Chick-fil-A, President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign Obama for America has spent money at the restaurant chain ... While gay activists have staged boycotts of the chain since then, expenditure records at Political Moneyline show that on June 29, 2012 Obama for America spent $62 at Chick-fil-A in Atlanta, Ga. While the money the campaign spent is pittance in comparison to Obama’s overall re-election expenditures, it clashes with the president’s recent endorsement of gay marriage and Chick-fil-A’s foray into the gay marriage debate."
The question now is will the Obama campaign continue to spend tens of dollars on chicken nuggets from a fast food chain whose owner disagrees with it on some cultural issues? Or will they take the campaign's tens of dollars to another less-political --- but almost certainly inferior --- chicken nuggets joint? Only the shadow knows. Or something. | 2.) Loose lips sink ships -- Though Democratic Sen. Diane Feinstein is now trying to backtrack her comments, she did suggest she believes senior White House officials are leaking sensitive national security secrets. TheDC's Matthew Boyle reports:
"California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein accused the White House of being behind national security information leaks on Monday, but then walked back her accusation on Tuesday after former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney used her comments against President Barack Obama. 'I stated that I did not believe the president leaked classified information,' Feinstein said in a statement on her website Tuesday. “I shouldn’t have speculated beyond that, because the fact of the matter is I don’t know the source of the leaks.'"
But the Democratic senator did suggest originally that she believed that some White House staffers were leaking sensitive national security information to the press. And we do know from New York Times national security correspondent David Sanger's new book that former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates made a visit to the White House after the Osama bin Laden raid to tell National Security Advisor Tom Donilon to "shut the fuck up." It would appear that the White House has a leakage problem that could be harming our national security. | 3.) Michigan tea partier, Paris liberator? -- TheDC's Alex Pappas reports:
"Clark Durant is the underdog in the Republican primary in Michigan for the U.S. Senate, but he’s getting a sudden infusion of support from local and national tea party organizations with less than two weeks to go until the election. 'The troops have landed at Normandy and we’re on our way to liberate Paris,' Durant said in an interview with The Daily Caller this week."
TheDC Morning isn't entirely sure, but it seems that Durant may not have been being literal in suggesting he and the tea party are on their way to liberating grand Paris. | 4.) Pathetic Prosecution -- And now someone is trying to make some dough out of the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado. TheDC's Taylor Bigler reports:
"Days after the Aurora, Colo., shooting during a screening of 'The Dark Knight Rises' that killed 12 people and injured 58, one audience member plans to sue three parties he alleges should take responsibility for the rampage ... Warner Bros., the studio that produced 'The Dark Knight Rises,' will also be named in the lawsuit because Brown claims that the film is too violent and that audience members thought, at first, that Holmes was part of the production." | | 5.) Poll of the Day: Obama up in Michigan in new poll -- Rasmussen Reports poll of Michigan: President Obama 48%, Mitt Romney 42%. The RealClearPolitics polling average of the race has Romney up just 1.5%. | | 6.)
