Michael Moore on the creepiness of crazy Clint. HOW’D HE DO? The craven bid for the women’s vote. Claiming credit for Staples’s every success. Ex-Bush speechwriter Matt Latimer on Romney’s underwhelming performance. SECRETS Now that’s a letter you don’t want to get. The Pentagon’s top lawyer wrote to author of the upcoming book about the top-secret raid that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden and threatened legal action Thursday. The book, which wasn’t vetted by government agencies, is “in material breach and violation of the non-disclosure agreements you signed,” said the letter obtained by Reuters. The author is a former Navy SEAL known by the pseudonym Mark Owen, who issued a statement saying he has not disclosed confidential material that would compromise national security. Legal action may be the last of the author’s worries—his real name and photo were posted on an official al Qaeda website last week after being revealed by Fox News. SCARY A gunman reportedly opened fire at a New Jersey supermarket early Friday morning, killing at least three. Heavily armed police were on the ground outside the supermarket, and several windows were broken, according to NBC New York, while SWAT teams set up a command post in a nearby parking lot. Authorities have also closed a nearby bridge as the investigation continues. WIKILEAKS It's tough being the man behind the world's biggest leak network. Julian Assange, head of Wikileaks, said on Thursday that he will have to wait six months to a year in Ecuador's embassy in London, as he waits for a deal to secure his release. Assange is wanted in Sweden, where he has been accused of an alleged sexual assault—but he has maintained he will be extradited to the U.S. if he goes to Sweden. Since Britain ordered his extradition last month, Assange has been hiding out in the Ecuadorian embassy since that nation offered him asylum. | |
