HUMILIATION

A new report appears to exonerate Susan Rice for public statements following the Benghazi attack. Will John McCain apologize for his reckless crusade against her? Don't bet on it, writes Michael Tomasky.

PROTEST

Mo' Morsi, mo' problems. Fed up with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi's attempt to free his office from judicial checks and balances, the country's highest judges called for a nationwide strike to protest the power grab, calling it an "unprecedented attack" on the judiciary branch. Egyptians have protested across the country, including in the capital city of Cairo. Not everyone opposes the president's move for what opponents have called "dictatorial" powers, however—the Islamist group the Muslim Brotherhood, of which Morsi is a former leader, announced its support for the president and said it would organize counterprotests.

RECOVERY

Architecture for Humanity's Cameron Sinclair blitzes through post-Sandy New York, and The Daily Beast's Malcolm Jones is there to see what's being done to rebuild after the storm.

CEASEFIRE

Peace-loving people approved the recent Gaza ceasefire, and now a leading cleric does, too. A top Islamic cleric in Gaza issued a fatwa saying that it would be "sinful" to violate the recent truce struck between Israel and Hamas, conferring religious legitimacy on the deal. Suleiman al-Daya wrote that the ceasefire was sponsored by Egypt and that respecting it "is the duty of each and every one of us. Violating it shall constitute a sin." Eight days of bloodshed ended with a truce struck Wednesday.

INFERNO

There was no escape. A fire claimed 112 workers in a garment factory near the capital of Bangladesh late Saturday. A fire official said their last moments were spent in panic as they searched in vain for fire exits leading outside. "I want the factory owner to be hanged," said one grieving mother who lost her daughter-in-law in the fire and whose son is still missing. "For him, many have died." Firefighters have recovered 100 bodies from the gutted seven-story factory. Many of Bangladesh's 4,000 garment shops lack proper fire protections.

Anti-Morsi Protests Rage In Egypt

In scenes reminiscent of the 2011 Arab Spring, hundreds of thousands of Egyptians have taken to the streets to protest President Mohamed Morsi's decree on Thursday that granted him broad new powers. The demonstrations have turned violent, as this video from The Telegraph shows.
