Navy Yard Shooting: Live Updates At least seven people are dead after a shooting this morning at Washington, D.C.'s Navy Yard. At least 10 were shot, including two police officers, at an office building not far from Capitol Hill. Authorities say there may have been multiple gunmen, though one shooter is reportedly dead. Confirms Sarin Gas in Syria United Nations inspectors have concluded there is "clear and convincing evidence" that chemical weapons were used against civilians in Syria on August 21—but they don't blame the Assad regime directly. The Richest People in America We're No. 1! The economy may be in a slow-motion recovery, but in terms of the richest person in the world, America is back on top. Bill Gates, with a net worth of $72 billion, has reclaimed the top spot globally from Mexico's Carlos Slim. Warren Buffett also passed Slim, as 2012 was a banner year for the Oracle of Omaha—he added $12.5 billion. The biggest loser? According to Forbes, that would be outspoken investor T. Boone Pickens, who is no longer a billionaire after losing big time on wind energy bets. And for those with a conscience, the total net worth of the 400 wealthiest Americans is $2.02 trillion, which is over twice what it was a decade ago. Most American families can't say that. Read it at Forbes Troubled 4. Joint Strike Fighter Still Has Problems Vanity Fair dove deep into the troubled Joint Strike Fighter program, and what it found isn't pretty. The $1.5 trillion plane that was supposed to be the next generation in fighter jets is years over deadline, billions over budget, and might not be able to safely fly. A helmet that uses cameras to give pilots 360-degree vision, one of the centerpieces of the F-35, was supposed to be its crowning achievement, but Lockheed still hasn't finished the software for it. Furthermore, pilots who've tested the F-35 have found it laggy, disorienting, and blurry. The plane has been grounded repeatedly for broken parts, it can't fly near lightning, and the stealth coating burns off when it goes supersonic. Read it at Vanity Fair SPLAT! 5. Rotten Tomatoes to Rate TV Shows The review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes is expanding its empire. Starting Tuesday, the site will begin ranking TV shows. The site, which is embarking on its first major expansion since 1998, will launch "TV Zone," which will include a Tomatometer that aggregates the reviews of a show's entire season. Reality shows won't be included, but for long-standing hits like Breaking Bad and Mad Men, the Tomatometer will go back to the beginning to come up with its rating. Good shows will be rated as "fresh" and receive a red tomato.
