IN POSITION

So far, the White House response to requests for support from Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki have been no. But Eli Lake and Tim Mak report that if Obama changes his mind, U.S. jets could be flying over Iraq in less than 24 hours.

TGIF

"Robert Galbrath," a.k.a. J.K. Rowling, is out with the latest of her detective novels, The Silkworm. Say what you will about the world's wealthiest author, but she crafts a plot as well as anyone alive. Her new novel, writes Malcolm Jones, is a genuine mystery, and will leave readers of all stripes satisfied.

WELCOME HOME

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl landed at an Army medical center in Texas early Friday morning and is receiving ongoing treatment. Bergdahl, who was released after five years as a Taliban captive on May 31, left Germany for at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. "While there, he will continue the next phase of his reintegration process," a Pentagon spokesman said. "There is no timeline for this process. Our focus remains on his health and well-being." Brooke Army Medical Center has been known for helping returning prisoners of war for decades. Bergdahl's parents are expected to travel to Texas from Idaho to meet him.

TESTY

NPR has never been mistaken for Fox News, but Fresh Air host Terry Gross didn't let Hillary Clinton off the hook when the potential presidential candidate wouldn't give a straight answer about why she changed her mind about same-sex marriage. In an interview Thursday, Clinton and Gross went head to head for seven minutes. Asked whether she "made a calculus" by opposing gay marriage before she endorsed it last year, Clinton got defensive. "I think you're trying to say I used to be opposed and now I'm in favor and I did it for political reasons, and that's just flat wrong. So let me just state what I feel like you are implying and repudiate it." Clinton said she "evolved" like President Obama and others say they have, but she believes the issue should be decided by the states.

ROLL OVER

Maybe the Heat really should focus their efforts on getting Carmelo Anthony for next year, as Miami got spanked by the San Antonio Spurs Thursday night. The 107-86 win by the Spurs puts the team up 3-1 in the series. The record for teams coming out of that deficit to win the title is 0-31. If the Spurs win, it will be their fifth NBA title, and they will have had revenge after losing in seven games to Miami last year. Dwyane Wade in particular had a terrible game for the Heat, going just 1 for 10 and ending up with only 10 points.
