Sterling: Clippers Not for Sale Well, Donald Sterling's willingness to cooperate with the NBA was very short-lived. Last week, former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer agreed to buy the Los Angeles Clippers for $2 billion in a deal negotiated by the embattled owner's estranged wife, Shelly. However, on Monday his attorney announced that Sterling had pulled support from the deal and will pursue a $1 billion federal lawsuit against the NBA. In the claim, he alleges the league violated antitrust laws by trying to force him to sell his team, as well as his constitutional rights by depending on information from an "illegal" recording. In a statement titled "The Team Is Not for Sale," Sterling wrote "I have decided that I must fight to protect my rights. While my position may not be popular… I intend to fight to keep the team." His protests may be for naught: The New York Times reports Tuesday that Shelly Sterling's lawyers invoked "a Plan B" in their ownership contract that stripped her husband's authority after a neurological exam found him to have cognitive impairments. Read it at USA Today DISASTER 3. Al Qaeda Offshoot Seizes Mosul, Iraq Iraq is increasingly falling out of government control. Insurgents managed to secure most of the northern city of Mosul early Tuesday. Militants from the al Qaeda offshoot the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) successfully seized the western bank of the city during the night. Soldiers and police "dropped their weapons and abandoned their posts," said Iraq's speaker of parliament Osama Nujaifi. Some even discarded their uniforms to evade the insurgent forces. Nujaifi said the insurgents controlled all key institutions, including the airport and prisons. "Everything is fallen. It's a crisis," he admitted. "Having these terrorist groups control a city in the heart of Iraq threatens not only Iraq but the entire region." Rob Williams, the national intelligence officer for South Asia, said last week that he believed four of the five Taliban members released for Bergdahl will go back to the battlefield. Clinton: Bill and I Were 'Dead Broke' It's tough out there for struggling, middle-age couples—even those who once lived in the White House. In an interview with Diane Sawyer that aired Monday night, Hillary Clinton revealed that she and former President Bill Clinton owed hefty legal fees after his presidency. "We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt," Clinton said. "We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to, you know, piece together the resources for mortgages, for houses, for Chelsea's education. You know, it was not easy." The former Secretary of State defended the millions in speaking fees the power couple has since earned, saying it's better than working for one group or company after leaving office. Clinton also spoke about the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, calling it "more of a reason to run" for president in 2016, rather than not to, and defended her role in the scandal.
