Beach Weddings: Brides and Wedding Planners are Now Victims of the Gulf Oil Spill

Want to see the impact of the oil spill on every form of tourist and beach-related business along the Gulf Coast. Read this great article from CNN below:

http://www.cnn.com/2010/TRAVEL/06/11/oil.spill.beach.weddings/index.html?hpt=C2

The sad truth: No bride wants to go down the sandy aisle barefoot and walk across a tar ball....and have dead birds and fish around. Not the way to start a new life. My heart goes out to these folks though - it will devastate a number of small businesses who specialize in beach weddings, catering, and photography all along the Gulf Coast! Thanks again, BP!

This BP mess is a monstrosity. People around the globe may see this on television and not really consider the depth.

I viewed a recent news coverage that was done in Florida at Orange Beach. This is a place that our family often visit for a quick summer break. I imagined how crowded the beach front was during our visits.......and it was mind blowing looking at the businesses and the almost-empty beach front.

It's going to take a looong time for me to be comfortable on the gulf shores again, and even longer before I will be able to eat enjoy oysters without thinking of the crud that's polluted the waters.

We are continually going to see people that lose jobs, homes, or hobbies because of this horrible event. There is no way to make a complete list of all the devastation something like this will cause because something will always be left out of that list. What's truly sad is there isn't even a way to make up for someone the problems. BP can dish out as much money as they want but they cannot redo a couples wedding the way they wanted it in the first place. It really is just horrible.

I have a co-worker and friend that is an event planner and we were talking about this topic the other day. People don't realize just how many people will be hurt by this. Lots of folks that had been planning huge beachfront weddings will end up moving the venue, which eliminates a lot of jobs. Beachfront weddings need a different set of equipment (tables, chairs, sound equipment) that permanent locations have all the time. Not only are the planners hurt, but the equipment rental folks and all the other workers also take a hit. Most people don't think it through far enough to realize that it also hurts people with NO direct association to the oil industry.

The beach is not just a place for wedding or vacations. The beach is a place to make memories. Living on the coast we are lucky to have the opportunity to visit the beach whether in MS. or in FL., until now. Some of my best memories are being in Grand Isle with my family fishing and sitting on the beach. I won't get to experience that with my daughter this summer. This oil spill has taking away opportunities for business and families. My hope and prayer is that this can be squared away as soon as possible with as little damage as possible from this point on.

Not only have beach weddings been affected by this oil disaster but restaurants, boat repair shops and now condo rentals are being canceled by people changing their travel destination. This is a very tragic event that will affect many types of businesses. Let's see what BP will continue to do.

The oil spill has affected more than just the beaches our hotels, restaurants, and the entertainment industry that surrounds our beach communities will have less support from the people who come every year to see our beautiful beaches and more. People are going to lose their jobs and more business will fail. Regardless, BP in my opinion can't fix the all the issues at hand our communities will have to think and resolve some of our issues by ourselves. One company can’t repair all of the damage no matter how much money they throw at it. This is a natural disaster and it is going to take time to fix and repair. Make no mistake I am not on BP side but if we do not care about our small communities why should they.

The problem lies within the love for humanity. With all the scientist and engineers floating around, it should seem like an easy task to find a solution to the problem at hand. However, it has been months since the tragedy and we are still going without. Maybe people just don't care enough anymore.

I agree that no bride wants to do that but it hasn't gotten that bad. People are making the beaches sound so terrible. I just went a few weeks ago and saw very few tar balls, no dead animals, and the water didn't seem bad at all.. there were plenty of people swimming and playing in the gulf.

I understand that this oil has made a mess but it has not stopped people from getting married out on the beach. I have a friend that actually just got married this past weekend on the beach in Fla. and it was beautiful... so maybe at some point it will get bad enough where weddings won't be happening but that is not the case as of right now.

I understand that the spill is affecting a lot more than just fishermen. For example, my Mother sales real estate in Florida, she has had two people decide to not purchase a home until they see how the spill will affect Florida's beaches.

June 16- This oil spill has affected so many things. Yes, the beach weddings were affected and in return that affected not only the people getting married but the planners, people catering, those the rent out the things for beach weddings etc. But not only had the weddings been affected on the beach a lot of other people have been affected such as restaurant owners, condo owners, hotel owners, vacation goers etc. I could sit here and go on and on the oil spill has just affected so many different things and many different people.

So many people have been affected by this disaster, and you just keep finding out more and more about who it is affecting. People's plans out the window, people's businesses drastically hurting, and animals suffering.

I think that there should be some sort of repayment to those who planned to have a wedding on the beach. Also, many wedding planners, photographers, etc. will be affect by the oil spill. I think the nearby hotels on the beach should at least offer service to those couples who wished to get married on the beach. They will have business for their hotel and the couple will still have their semi-beach wedding.
