| | | | | Today's advice comes from Globalive Communications CEO Anthony Lacavera's interview with The Financial Post: "You know, there is no rocket science or silver bullet. If you think you’re going to get rich quick, stop right now. It’s not going to happen. If you think you’re going to come up with some magic formula, you’re not." Lacavera credits a couple of mentors with teaching him to be smart about planning and gauging risk, which he says has helped his Canadian telecommunications company thrive. He admits to being aggressive when it comes to goal-setting — "suicidal, some might say." To translate that energy to achievement, Lacavera says he's had to learn balance. Keeping an eye toward your endgame and plotting how to get there are key pillars, he says. "If you create a realistic plan, stick to your plan and continue to drive at it, staying disciplined and focused, you have a much greater chance of success ... The cliches about hard work and discipline are all absolutely true." Want your business advice featured in Instant MBA? Submit your tips to tipoftheday@businessinsider.com.
