Dear People:
Want to know more about the significant roles that managers and Human Resources staff must play within their organizations? Saturday, I discussed the importance of the manager's role as a developer of people. In a second development role, the manager must continue his or her own personal development. If a manager continues to grow significant skills, the manager may be ready to assume the next job challenge. Without continuous growth, the manager will fail.
A second critical skill for managers is facilitation. A manager must be able to facilitate meetings, training sessions, and team building events. He or she must be able to facilitate conversations between individuals, department members, and people who are in conflict. Over the years, I have done a lot of facilitation and early readers of this website were interested in facilitation as a skill and as a practice. Here's my best piece about how to facilitate a meeting. I emphasize what must happen before, during, and after a meeting, if you want to achieve your goals. Look for more about facilitation in the near future. I'd love your feedback about your interest in the topic.
