More than 6,000 people from across Germany gathered in the eastern city of Dresden on Saturday to protest a planned Neo-Nazi demonstration, which was cancelled beforehand.

After two decades of independence from the Soviet Union, Latvia is holding a referendum to decide whether or not Russian should become an official language. It is seen as unlikely to pass.

Syrian forces open fire on mourners
Syrian security forces have opened fire on mourners at a funeral in Damascus soon after the Chinese deputy foreign minister called on the Syrian government and the opposition to end all violence.

Otto Rehhagel confirmed as new coach at Berlin
The former coach of the Greek national team and Bundesliga veteran Otto Rehhagel is replacing Michael Skibbe as coach at Hertha Berlin. The 73-year-old will take over with immediate effect.

Close win in Berlin means Dortmund rule the roost
They say championships depend on being able to win without playing well. Dortmund seemed out to prove the truth of that in round 22 on Saturday, just barely squeaking by floundering Hertha Berlin 1-0.
