The best reason to vote for President Obama -- Unity, thy name is opposing Obama -- Leaving the stage -- What Romney shouldn't say -- Poll of the Day: Obama/Romney tied in Ohio --Tweet of Yesterday | 1.) The best reason to vote for President Obama -- Because 2016 will be pretty interesting, TheDC's Jamie Weinstein (ME!) reports:
"If President Barack Obama wins a second term, tire mogul and 1996 presidential contender Morry 'the Grizz' Taylor says he will enter the 2016 presidential race. 'If Obama wins then you guys get ready, because somebody is going to have to fix this mess and it is going to be a real bad mess in four more years if he’s running it,' the Titan International CEO told The Daily Caller in a phone interview last week, after first suggesting the news day must be slow for this writer to catch up with the 'wild man from the Midwest.' 'And then I’m going to run. Because if you had now with the TV and the debates, I would have a blast.'"
If you haven't heard of Taylor, read Michael Lewis' campaign classic "Losers." Not sure the Grizz would make as good a president as he is a businessman, but he would certainly help make an interesting 2016 GOP primary (or at least sideshow). | 2.) Unity, thy name is opposing Obama -- Republicans held a rally to unite in Tampa and the subject of unity was unsurprisingly President Obama. TheDC's Alexis Levinson reports:
"The 'Unity Rally 2012,' convening the night before the Republican National Convention began, preached a form of unity that was less about uniting around a common idea or candidate than about uniting around a common enemy: President Barack Obama. The Sunday rally in Tampa’s River Church featured tea party figures including two of Mitt Romney’s formal primary rivals: pizza mogul Herman Cain and Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann. It was co-sponsored by TheTeaParty.net, Cain Solutions Revolution, the Western Representation PAC and other organizations." | 3.) Leaving the stage -- As Ron Paul prepares to exit the stage, he gave a long speech in Tampa Sunday, though he wasn't the only speaker at the rally. Jim Antle reports for The Daily Caller News Foundation:
"When the roll is called at the Republican National Convention this week, Ron Paul will not be nominated for president. But for a few hours on Sunday, his supporters got to celebrate as if the 'revolution' was headed to the White House. Thousands packed the University of South Florida Sun Dome for the “We Are the Future” rally, billed as an attempt to 'assemble champions of constitutional conservatism.' Paul was introduced by his son, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, capping an afternoon of political speeches, musical performances, and lessons in libertarianism with a passionate but meandering keynote address that clocked over an hour ... Walter Block, a libertarian professor at Loyola University in New Orleans, then delivered a 25-minute talk about abortion. He suggested a compromise whereby women are allowed to 'evict' unwanted fetuses but not kill them. Audience members appeared to grow impatient during his speech."
Sounds like it was riveting. | | 4.) What Romney shouldn't say -- Mitt Romney will accept the Republican nomination Thursday night in a primetime speech. TheDC's Jamie Weinstein (ME!) came up with 10 lines the candidate should not include in it. They include "Read My Lips, Tampa: All New Taxes. We’re going to have bucket loads of them. Good God, will they be stifling!" and "Good evening Tampa. Let’s talk about the difference between legitimate rape and illegitimate rape." But there are 8 more. So read them. Now. | | 5.) Poll of the Day: Obama/Romney tied in Ohio -- Columbus Dispatch poll of Ohio: President Obama 45%, Mitt Romney 45%. The RealClearPolitics polling average shows Obama up by a 1.6%. | | 6.)
