Police and protesters clash in Bahrain
Police have clashed with protesters on the outskirts of the Bahraini capital, Manama, near the site of demonstrations that were brutally crushed last year. Demonstrators called on the king to step down.

Kenyans given right to sue UK over torture
A British court has granted three elderly Kenyan veterans the right to sue the UK for damages over torture, which took place under British rule of Kenya in the 1950s. The UK Foreign Office will appeal the verdict.

Merkel's challenger under fire for extra earnings
Peer Steinbrück has caved in and agreed to publish details on his income. His extra earnings as orator are at the center of a heated debate on transparency of parliamentarians' income in Germany.
Art
German mind and Russian soul
An art exhibition opening in Berlin tracks this trajectory and promises to show Russian 'soul' and German 'mind.' Over 600 exhibits are on display as part of the events taking place in the 'German-Russian Year'.
