Cheat Sheet - Hillary vs. Obama, Round 2

Read This, Skip That ....

June 09, 2014
DUKES UP
Hillary Clinton will not run for president just because she wants to make history. The former Secretary of State thinks President Obama has made serious foreign-policy mistakes, and she is convinced that she could restore U.S. prestige from the Oval Office. It is increasingly clear that she is distancing herself from the Obama administration's current foreign policy. Kelly Ghattas, who accompanied Clinton around the world during her four years as Secretary of State, says Clinton was disappointed by Obama's passive approach to global politics, especially with Syria and Ukraine. Clinton has the tough task of appearing to be neither an Obama backstabber nor a foreign-policy hawk if a 2016 presidential run is to be successful.
HORRIFYING

Five people, including two police officers, were killed Sunday in a shooting that began at a Las Vegas pizza restaurant. The violence ended at a nearby Walmart, where the two alleged gunmen—a married couple believed to be in their twenties—killed a woman in the store and then committed suicide. There appears to be a white-supremacy connection to the attacks. Right before officers Alyn Beck, 41, and Igor Soldo, 31, were shot while eating at a CiCi's Pizza, the suspects reportedly shouted "this is the start of a revolution." According to a source within Las Vegas' Metropolitan Police Department, the alleged shooters wrapped the cops' bodies in "Don't tread on me" flags. Investigators also reportedly found white-supremacist and swastika-laden paraphernalia in the couple's apartment. After killing the woman at Walmart, the female suspect reportedly wounded her accomplice and then shot herself in the head. The male suspect also killed himself. One neighbor described them as "militant" and said they talked about "going underground" until it was the time to kill.

TERRIFYING

The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for the bloody attacks on Karachi's airport that killed at least 24 people, including 10 members of the Taliban. On Sunday night, militants launched the violent assault with rocket-launchers, suicide vests, and grenades at Pakistan's busiest international airport. They wreaked havoc well into Monday morning in bloody battles with authorities. A reporter witnessed three suicide bombs go off and one official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the militants attempted to hijack a plane. Qaim Ali Shah, chief minister of Sindh province, said "They were well-trained. Their plan was very well thought out." Pakistani officials say the airport is under control and will be handed back to civilians. Pakistani Taliban spokesman Shahidullah Shahid claimed the attack was to "avenge the death of Hakimullah Mehsud," who was killed in a U.S. drone strike in November.

HIS SIDE
Daniel Kopin was publicly accused of raping his Brown University classmate in April after the student newspaper identified him when Lena Sclove accused the school of improperly handling her sexual-assault claim. Kopin faced a storm of attacks, including from Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), but the 21-year-old maintains the sex was consensual and is still shocked by the accusations. In an exclusive interview with Cathy Young, he says "We were friends" and claims he still wonders how he and Sclove have such different accounts of the ill-fated evening.
PROGNOSIS

30 Rock star Tracy Morgan was more responsive Sunday, but will likely stay in the hospital for several weeks, his rep said in a statement. Morgan was in critical condition after his vehicle was hit in a traffic accident Saturday. The rep said that Morgan suffered a broken leg, a broken nose, broken ribs, and a broken femur, and underwent surgery Sunday. The truck driver who crashed into Morgan has been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. Kevin Roper, 35, surrendered Saturday night to police. They believe Roper dozed off while driving the 18-wheeler on the New Jersey Turnpike early Saturday and didn't see traffic slowing until it was too late. Roper's bail is set at $50,000. The crash killed James McNair, a comedy writer for Morgan.
