Cheat Sheet - New U.S. Stealth Jet Can’t Fire Its Gun

Read This, Skip That ....

December 31, 2014
OUR BAD
The Pentagon's newest stealth jet, the Joint Strike Fighter, cost nearly $400 billion. Dave Majumdar reports that due to missing software, the jet won't be able to fire its gun during operational missions until 2019, three to four years after it joins fighter squadrons.
CAUGHT

Kenny Knight, the longtime adviser to former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, gave $1,000 to Republican Steve Scalise in 2008. That was six years after Scalise gave a speech at a white nationalist conference associated with neo-Nazis. Scalise, the incoming House majority whip, has since said in a statement: "One of the many groups that I spoke to regarding this critical legislation was a group whose views I wholeheartedly condemn. It was a mistake I regret." On Tuesday, Speaker John Boehner declared that he has "full confidence" in Scalise. In an interview with The Daily Beast, Knight said, "Poor Steve Scalise is getting a bad rap. I don't think Steve Scalise would come anywhere near a white hate group."

IT'S ON

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas signed papers on Wednesday to join the International Criminal Court in order to push for the prosecution of Israeli officials. The move comes just a day after a resolution demanding that Israel end its occupation of Palestinian territory by 2017 was defeated at the United Nations. The move to join the ICC will likely incur sanctions by the U.S. and Israel. It also could backfire on Palestinians, because while they will try to bring cases against Israeli settlements and military operations, they could also face charges at the court.

GROW UP
The NYPD are supposed to be New York's finest, but when they turned their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio, they seemed like high school jocks protesting a keg party ban, writes Nick Gillespie. Yes, cops are under tremendous stress, but they are trained to respond appropriately. They can—and should—do better.
HARD PASS
While party animals across the country will be popping the bubbly tonight, New Year's Eve refuseniks will be rebelling against the raucous celebrations. New Year's Eve is one of the most detested and irritating holidays, writes Lizzie Crocker. It is merely an occasion to look back on everything we failed to achieve in the last year, to look at our lives and ask ourselves, "Wait, is this it?"
