Bahrain's highest appeals court has ordered a retrial for a prominent opposition leader and 20 other activists, some of whom had been sentenced to life in prison for plotting to overthrow the country's Sunni rulers.

Following up on plans announced in January, Israel has started construction on a wall that will run along part of its border with Lebanon in an effort to curb attacks on the Israeli town of Metulla.

The Spanish economy has logged its second consecutive quarter with no economic growth, meaning that the country is now officially in a recession. Standard and Poor's has also downgraded the country's banks.
