Derek Jeter is having a bit of a career resurgence. The 37-year old shortstop for the New York Yankees, who many wrote off a couple of years ago, is now leading the American League with .397 average and 48 hits.
He now has 3,136 career hits, and all of a sudden, the idea of becoming just the third player with 4,000 hits doesn't seem so ridiculous.
If Jeter collects 200 hits this season (he is on pace for 278), he will finish the season less than 100 hits behind Pete Rose at the same age. And while reaching Rose's all-time record of 4,256 is unlikely, Jeter would only need to average 178 hits per season for four more years to reach 4,000.
