| | August 17, 2012 | | OH JOE Joe Biden’s gaffes are reflecting poorly on the country and the White House. The Daily Beast’s Meghan McCain joins the growing chorus asking: why doesn’t the president switch to a running mate as strong and capable as the secretary of state? TRAGIC One 10-year-old boy was killed and his 6-year-old brother is missing, presumed dead, at Yosemite National Park, after the two were swept away by a river on Thursday. The two children, visiting with their family from Southern California, were resting with their hiking group at the side of the river when the current carried them away. The older boy was pulled out 150 yards downstream, but couldn't be resuscitated. The site, the Vernal Fall Footbridge, leads to a large waterfall, where three Californian tourists were killed last year. TRAP President Obama’s first TV ad defending his record on Medicare airs Friday as Democrats attempt to hit Romney-Ryan on the issue. But, says The Daily Beast’s Mark McKinnon says Team Romney has effectively put responsibility for resolving the politically lethal program back into the president’s corner. SCARY Not one to mince words, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad upped the ante early Friday, telling anti-Israel protestors that the Jewish state is a "cancerous tumor" that will soon be destroyed. "The nations of the region will soon finish off the usurper Zionists in the Palestinian land ... In the new Middle East there will be no trace of the Americans and Zionists," Ahmadinejad said during a broadcast on state television. In recent weeks, rhetoric between the two countries has grown particularly sour, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu doubled down on the possibility of bombing Iran to stop its nuke research. BETRAYED Two American soldiers were killed by their ostensible comrades this Friday, just one day after seven Americans were killed in a helicopter crash. According to NATO, the two soldiers were shot by a newly recruited Afghan policeman, who was also shot and killed. Meanwhile, in Kandahar, an Afghan gunman shot and wounded three other soldiers before being taken into custody. Afghan military and police partners have attacked American and international soldiers 31 times this year, killing 23 Americans. | |
