By: Jamie Weinstein THEY'RE GOING TO KILL YOU!!! -- Touré Tirade -- Capitalism, Obama-Biden style -- The Hope and Change candidate of 2012 -- Poll of the Day: Romney in striking distance in PA --Tweet of Yesterday | 1.) THEY'RE GOING TO KILL YOU!!! -- President Obama's campaign is testing out ways to scare voters into voting for them, TheDC's Neil Munro reports: "President Barack Obama's aides have poll-tested new phrases and themes for their 'Mediscare' strategy, which seeks to persuade Medicare-reliant seniors to vote against Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in the critical swing-state of Florida. The Medicare reform plan pushed by Romney is 'a dangerous plan to strip seniors of their Medicare guarantee,' said Ben LaBolt, press secretary for Obama for America, said Aug. 16. 'These plans would give seniors on Medicare a much worse deal that members of Congress have,' Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the Democrats' top-ranked member of the House Budget Committee, said during the Aug. 16 press-conference with LaBolt. The new language is likely to appear in a TV attack ad." | 2.) Touré Tirade -- MSNBC's Touré says Mitt Romney is trying racialize the race, TheDC's Jeff Poor reports: "On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s 'The Cycle,' co-host Touré accused Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s of subjecting President Barack Obama to 'niggerization' in his critique of his November election opponent. Touré took exception to Romney’s response after Vice President Joe Biden said the former Massachusetts governor would return people to 'chains' if he became president. Some have interpreted Biden’s remark as a metaphor, but during a speech Tuesday in Chillicothe, Ohio Romney said he was not among them. 'I mean, that really bothered me,' Touré said. 'You notice he said ‘anger’ twice. He’s really trying to use racial coding and access some really deep stereotypes about the angry black man. This is part of the playbook against Obama, the ‘otherization’ — ‘he’s not like us.'" Uh, no. | 3.) Capitalism, Obama-Biden style -- Otherwise known as crony capitalism. TheDC's Christopher Bedford reports: "In late July, John Hynansky --- a longtime friend of Vice President Joe Biden, and a major donor to Biden's campaigns as well as President Barack Obama's --- was awarded a $20 million taxpayer loan to build a foreign-car dealership in Ukraine. According to a public summary document, the loan, from the federal government's Overseas Private Investment Corporation, is for '[u]p to $20.0 million," and is designed to "expand Winner Import Ukraine’s automobile business, [and] construct and operate 'Winner Autocity,' which will have two new, state-of-the-art dealership facilities for Porsche and Land Rover/Jaguar automobiles.'" A loan for a car dealership in the Ukraine? Unless this guy is on a secret mission for the CIA in which the car dealership is cover, this seems outside the scope of the Constitution by just a little bit. | 4.) The Hope and Change candidate of 2012 -- It is Paul Ryan who offers the prospect of real hope and change, argues TheDC's Jamie Weinstein (ME!): "In 2008 Obama mesmerized crowds promising to bring hope and change. But his hope and change was superficial, and often undefined. Ryan, in contrast, embodies real hope and change. Unlike Obama, he's not a Tony Robbins of politics, a self-help barker telling Americans, 'We are the ones we've been waiting for.' Ryan offers specifics: a change in the way our entitlements are structured and the way we view government. And the hope embedded in this change is that America will be able to thrive, economically and internationally." | 5.) Poll of the Day: Romney in striking distance in PA -- Franklin & Marshall poll of register Pennsylvania voters: President Obama 47%, Mitt Romney 42%. | 6.) Tweet of Yesterday -- Jim Treacher: I'm still skeptical that they're going to ditch Biden at this point. But sending him to his room after a week like this? How humiliating. | VIDEO: This guy loves 5 Guys burgers | | |
